Day Flows into Night
This is "Day Flows into Night". It is a triptych comprised of two 16x24 canvases that frame one 20x24 canvas. I’ve been thinking about, and designing, and thinking, and re-designing this piece for months. I think I have at least 6 different versions of planning sketches. It was initially inspired by a painting I saw of a stylized cherry tree that was light, bright and airy on the left side, and gradually progressed into dark and muted colours on the right. I really wish I’d kept a photo of it.
Am I happy with it? Oh yes! I’m a bit in love with it, which is a good thing because it will be hanging in my bedroom. Are there things I would do differently? Of course. Are there things that I did change? Yep- I had one colour that just didn’t play nice with the others, so it took a couple of rounds of over-painting to fix it. Is it perfect? No, but learning to accept things as they are is a part of life that I'm always working on. And really, why let perfect get in the way of gorgeous?
I'm particularly enjoying the way the iridescent paints play with the light. There are iridescent amethyst and turquoise, and metallic cobalt and ice blue, mixed among the regular paints. I think I’ll be admiring this from different angles for a long time.
