When the Universe speaks - listen!

In 2008, my daughter and I were supposed to go kayaking while on vacation in Newfoundland. Neither of us had kayaked before, but I was proficient enough in a canoe when I was younger. We went to the outfitter at the appointed time, only to be told they had overbooked, and to come back that afternoon. We returned at 2 and were told it was a no-go due to rough weather. That was our last day in the area so we didn't get to go out.  Forward to the spring of 2009 in Charleston, S.C. My hubby had made it into the top performers circle at his company the previous year, and the junket to Charleston was the reward all the winners. While he was golfing at a top 10 national course, I had selected for my activity kayaking & wildlife spotting in the nearby estuaries.  Except that I got a wicked case of food poisoning the night before and couldn't leave my room, let alone the hotel.  So, the third time is the charm. The universe was telling me that kayaking is not for me, and I have accepted this.

Over the last week, I've had a very specific colour combination in my head. I saw it used in one of the Facebook art groups I'm in, and it stuck. It was a sort of granny smith apple green, a light purple, with accents of a darker purple, darker green and maybe a navy. My first chance to try it out resulted in a large, vibrant sunburst style dutch pour. The colour balance is all wrong, there are too many cells, and there was way too much paint for something that was meant to be more minimal. Don't get me wrong - it's pretty & I like it- it's just not what I was aiming for.

So I tried again on a smaller canvas. It went spectacularly sideways, so I spritzed it with water to see what would happen. It was in interesting experiment, I now know what will happen ;) and the shape is somewhat suggestive of a seahorse, so I might do a bit more work on it when it is dry.

Last night I took another swing. I mixed tiny cups of paint, and applied very little. I used the mini-blower, not the larger hair dryer. And I ended up with some gorgeous purple flowers. Completely not what I was thinking of AGAIN, but in acrylic flow painting, you learn to go with the flow, so flowers it is.

I'm listening to the universe on this one. Three strikes and I'm out. I created a couple of beautiful pieces of art. On to the next colour inspiration!
