Why start creating abstract art?
Why did I start creating abstract art? That's a fair question. If you know me, you know there is more than one answer.
"Why not?" & "because I can", come immediately to mind.
I first tried Acrylic Pour painting at a Paint Nite event, along with a couple of girlfriends. I had never done it before, but I instantly "got it". There is a video (below) of me doing my very first Flip Cup, and watching it now, I seem pretty confident that I know what I'm doing. Of course I had no real idea, but have been learning ever since.
I did take art in High School, and have done arts and crafty type things with fair success through the years, but never had the time to indulge more than a passing fascination. Now I'm able to really dedicate myself to practicing and trying different techniques. Now I work on paintings in my head, playing with layout, arrangement and colour combinations. Sometimes they are happy to wait in my imagination, but others itch a bit to get onto the canvas. I'm definitely hooked!
So maybe the answer is "because the time was right, because it is so satisfying, and because I might just be good at it". Pretty good reasons, I'd say.
