#2 - Swipe Technique

Technique #2- Swipes

Another favourite technique is something called a Swipe. The basic concept here is to swipe one layer of paint over one or more layers of paint, to create lacing, or cells, and patterns. There is often a sense of movement as well.

Here are a few samples. All items are for sale unless otherwise noted.

A variation on the straight swipe is the Stained Glass Swipe, based on the method of Kathleen Miller.

In this method I swipe in small segments, and then tilt or spin the canvas to stretch out the paint. I've just started playing with this technique and really like the way it resembles stained glass. Since I have done glass painting years ago, and have always considered learning about doing stained glass work, I will definitely be doing more of these in future!
